Communications Assistant
Place of assignment: Kathmandu with frequent travels to the field

People in Need (PIN) is an international non – governmental organization with headquarters in Prague, the Czech Republic. In its 20 years of history, PIN was working in over 40 countries in relief, development and human rights and democracy support projects. People in Need is a member of the Alliance 2015 – European NGO Network. For more information visit www.peopleinneed.cz. After the earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, PIN joined the emergency response to support the most affected communities in Nepal.
Communications Assistant supports PIN’s communications, advocacy, visibility and fundraising efforts via documentation of field-based programs through photography, videography, graphic design, and print and web-based media outputs, under supervision of the Program Manager. This position has the possibility to be full or half-time.
Tasks and responsibilities
- With direction from the Program Manager, support communications, advocacy, visibility, and fundraising outputs;
- Produce high quality photographs and video documenting project activities;
- Produce excellent written materials including popular press articles, blog posts, social media posts, and other outputs documenting project activities;
- Travel to rural and remote areas to document project activities;
- Complete translations and transcriptions as required for media outputs;
- Generate story ideas centered on PIN project activities;
- Use graphic design to produce visibility materials such as signboards, banners and brochures;
- Assist in training of PIN staff as required on basic media skills.
Your profile:
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience; bachelors degree preferred
- Documented experience producing communications materials or journalistic materials
- Willingness to conduct frequent field trips for documenting activities in rural and remote areas (may include walking several hours in difficult terrain)
- Outstanding communication skills and ability to communicate with a range of actors from international staff to beneficiaries is remote areas who may speak only local languages
- Fluency in written and spoken Nepali and English
- Excellent English writing skills and ability to write in an engaging narrative style
- Strong critical thinking
- Detail orientation and ability to work independently
- Basic proficiency in design programs such as InDesign and Photoshop
- Own your own photography and videography equipment (for example DSLR camera with video capability)
