Sunaulo Parivar Nepal (SPN) is a wellâ€established NGO delivering Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health services throughâ€out the country via centres, mobile outreach teams to remote areas and social marketing. It works in partnership with Marie Stopes International UK (MSI), a global social business providing reproductive health services across the world with a mission of ensuring individual's fundamental right to have children by choice not chance.

Support for International Health and Family Planning Organizations 2 (SIFPO2) is a cooperative agreement funded by USAID and implemented by Marie Stopes International Nepal/Sunaulo Parivar Nepal in 11 districts of Nepal: Sankhuwasava, Siraha, Rautahat, Chitwan, Dhading, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Syangja, Rupandehi and Darchula from 2015 to 2019

The Behavior Change Communication (BCC) Officer will be responsible for ensuring operation of BCC interventions of SIFPO2 (Family Planning Service Strengthening Program) in concerned district. The BCC Officer will closely work with District Manager, BCC Manager, Senior Project Manager and others of the project to plan and implement BCC interventions as guided by project Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) collaborating with D(P)HO, RHCC, USAID’s partners and other stakeholders at district level. The position requires frequent travel to monitor project activities.

Jobs Description:

  • Review existing demand generation and BCC activities that work in family planning and develop district BCC Plan in consultation with project team and district stakeholders and make it compatible with project requirements
  • Lead the design, implementation and monitoring of DG and BCC activities of the project in the district
  • Ensure project monitoring, evaluation, research and reporting from district capture DG and BCC components required to achieve project’s objectives in the district
  • Ensure district DG and BCC activities are compatible with USAID family planning compliance, rules/regulations and requirements
  • Prepare periodic and monthly work plan of the project’s DG and BCC activities in the district
  • Train and mentor/coach project district project teams, health facility teams and FCHVs on IPCC and IPC as appropriate in the district.
  • Implement DG and BCC activities in the district, including Inter-Personal Communications plus (IPC+), community mobilization and media mobilization.
  • Pilot and implement effective district level interventions for BCC including IEC.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of DG/BCC interventions on uptake of FP counseling and services and feed the findings to improve DG/BCC interventions in the district
  • Coordinate with D(P)HO upon design, implementation and monitoring of IEC and BCC interventions at district level
  • Coordinate with BCC Manager for replicating successful demand generation and communication interventions of HC3 with service delivery in the district
  • Disseminate message about the FP service delivery planned in district for increasing awareness in the community
  • Capture people reached for BCC and referred for FP counseling &/or services in the district
  • Prepare event reports of DG/BCC activities in the districts and ensure the timely reporting of DG/BCC activities from the district
  • Ensure that the records and reports of beneficiaries of DG/BCC are disaggregated by gender and MDAG population as required for the project
  • Prepare district report of DG/BCC activities in time, review and revise it based on feedback received
  • Effective implementation of DG/BCC activities based expected results of the project and local scenario
  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to the project areas, monitor service utilization by M/DAG population and make DG and BCC effective
  • Visit local communities, health facilities and facilitate to link DG/BCC with service delivery
  • Prepare district level reports of DG and BCC events and make sure that the district reports to support office in time

Job Specification:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably, post graduate) in health communication, health promotion and health education, public health or other relevant subjects.
  • Knowledge of USAID funded projects
  • Knowledge of family planning related indicators
  • At least 2 years of experience in public health, preferably related to family planning in designing, implementing and monitoring DG/IEC/BCC interventions of large scale projects, preferably funded by USAID
  • Experience in community mobilization, media mobilization and training with an emphasis on participatory approaches
