ANSAB is a civil society organization that has been working for conserving biodiversity and improving livelihoods across South Asia for twenty-five years. It places community empowerment and economic incentives at the heart of its approach, and generates knowledge and results through applied research and studies to implement innovative solutions, such as the creation of enterprises based on the sustainable use of natural resources, establishment of payment for environmental services, and advancement of ecosystem based commercial agriculture.

The Ecosystem-based Commercial Agriculture (ECA) program of ANSAB aims to transform the traditional forestry and agriculture into climate smart, attractive and socially prestigious business, by tapping the huge potential that exist in Nepal’s agriculture sector and addressing the challenges of resource degradation, fragmented land holdings, erratic climate systems, poor market linkages and labor shortages currently being faced by this sector. A climate smart ECA system, as envisioned by ANSAB, increases the production and productivity in a sustainable way; improves the resilience of agro-ecosystems and people to climate change; reduces/removes green house gases; and attract youths and make it socially prestigious generating better remuneration. The ECA builds on the good results and best practices gained through ANSAB’s programs aimed at building prosperous communities through farm and forest based enterprises.

ANSAB has currently been implementing ECA program activities in different parts of Nepal. To implement a project in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts, we are seeking a well qualified and experience candidate for the following position: 

Position: Agriculture Technician

Duty Station: Dolakha with frequent travel in project districts

Required Number: 1

JOB SUMMARY

Agriculture Technician will be the responsible person for effective coordination and implementation of ECA program in the districts. S/he will be responsible to provide technical guidance and support to the target communities, coordinate with the district level relevant stakeholders, and ensure community level capacity building for ECA initiatives in the three districts. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize regular group meetings and mobilize groups for crop production 
  • Support lead-firms including marketing cooperatives in business planning and consolidation and marketing of farm produce  
  • Orient communities on ECA components and practices 
  • Build capacity of farmers and other value chain actors through trainings, demonstration and exposure visits
  • Collect data to support research, monitoring and evaluation system at field level 
  • Represent ECA program and ANSAB at district level

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Diploma in Agriculture with 1 year of relevant work experience or Technical Assistant (Agriculture) with 2 years of relevant work experience 
  • Prior field experiences on organic farming, eco-farming and sustainable agriculture 
  • Proficient in M.S. Office (Excel and Word)
  • Driving proficiency of two-wheelers
