Organization Description

Build Change designs disaster-resistant houses and schools, trains homeowners, builders, engineers and government officials to build them, works with governments to develop and implement building standards, partners with the private sector to improve building materials quality and create jobs, and facilitates access to incentive-based capital for reconstruction and retrofitting by partnering with financing institutions and government subsidy programs. Build Change started its work in Aceh, Indonesia after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami and has since expanded to include programs in China, Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Nepal, and the Philippines. Build Change has trained more than 23,000 people on earthquake-resistant design and construction techniques, created more than 11,000 jobs and provided technical assistance for more than 47,000 safer buildings, impacting an estimated 236,875 people.

 

Responsibilities:

Assist all departments (Finance, Human Resources, Logistics, and Assistant to the Country Director) with any of the following administrative tasks:

·        Answers, reviews, forwards and/or takes calls

·        Ensure the Nepal office runs smoothly

·        Prepare and organize information materials for meetings

·        Organize and prioritize incoming and outgoing correspondence (post, fax, email) and disseminates information accordingly

·        Participate in internal and external (team) meetings and assists with documenting

·        Manage annual and other leave requests

·        Organize housing for expat guests

·        Coordinate and organize rooms for meetings

·        Coordinate equipment and supplies required for meetings with the responsible person

·        Develop purchase orders for office supply needs

·        Assist in creating and maintaining a filing system for the office, treats information confidentially, specifically in the areas of personnel and finance

·        Organize documents for various staff

·        Recruit process by posting vacancy announcements, collecting and sorting applications

·        Create and maintain national staff personnel files

·        Distribute, collect and check monthly timesheets from national staff

·        Prepare, complete and file contracts and hiring packets

·        Track benefits accumulation and produce monthly summaries

·        Produce monthly salary calculations and payments

·        Enforce HR policy, including office hours, paid leave and overtime

·        Assist with new staff orientation, updating and disseminating Build Change regulations

·        Assist with employee health and accidental insurance.

·        Assist Accountant to prepare government documentation

·        Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects as needed

 

Country Director Assistant

·        Organizes and coordinates the country director’s schedule

·        Prepares and organizes information materials for meetings

·        Organizes and prioritizes incoming and outgoing correspondence (post, fax, email) and disseminates information accordingly

·        Replies and looks after correspondence

·        Participates in internal and external (team) meetings and assists with documenting

·        Maintains the inventory list for the office/project/programs

·        Welcomes visitors and familiarizes them with the office

·        Performs other duties, tasks, and special projects as needed

 

Qualifications:

·        Recent graduate or last year student earning a degree in Human Resources, Administration, Management, Accounting, or related field

·        Attention to detail and quality control

·        Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and development ethics

·        Proficiency with Internet, Excel, Word and other Office applications

·        Fluency in written and spoken English and Nepali

·        Understanding of Nepali labor law, a plus

·        Understanding of Nepali labor market, a plus

·        Previous experience with non-profit organizations, a plus

·        Experience in Finance, a plus

 

The internship is unpaid for the first 3 months with small stipend.   Benefits include iNGO experience and opportunity for a full time position in a growing organization.
