WASH Project Coordinator, Kathmandu Nepal

In Nepal, we areinvolved in several thematic areas with focus on disaster risk reduction,climate change and humanitarian response,resilient livelihoods and food security, activecitizenship and migrants’ rights, amongothers.

The WASHProject Coordinatorwill be offered a 6months contract that could be renewed based on theorganisational need.

The WASH Project Coordinator will be responsible for:

• Assess health risks, water and sanitation needs, available resources and the capacity of      earthquake displaced populations in DCA working districts.
• Identify suitable water sources (surface and ground water) and confirm quality and quantity of water available.
• Consult with earthquake affected community about access, design and management of water systems and sanitation facilities, as well as hygiene promotion needs.
• Design and implement water storage, treatment and distribution systems.
• Design and implement sanitation systems for household and/or communal toilets, solid waste management, including drainage and vector control in close coordination with health, WASH and education services.
• Develop hygiene promotion / education materials for partner staffs training and community awareness campaigns.
• Deliver training on water treatment, water quality testing, and maintenance and hygiene promotion to technical staff from partner organization, community volunteers/facilitators.
• Assess condition, set up maintenance systems and arrange repairs of tanks, pumps, generators, pipe networks, drainage systems and water quality testing equipment.
• Participate in district level and other relevant WASH cluster/sectorial meetings.
• Monitor ongoing project activities and track progress.

Applicants for the job must have the following qualifications:

• Post graduate in Water, Sanitation and hygiene.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in WASH and disaster risk reduction
• Solid understanding of the disaster contexts, WASH and related health issues in Nepal
• Solid knowledge and experience of development work from Rights Based Approach, gender sensitive perspective and general approach that promotes Peace, Justice and Diversity  and how it build on the humanitarian response work
• Familiar with and abide by humanitarian laws,  international frameworks and other regulatory codes like SPHERE standards, HAP
• Fluency in oral and written skills in English and Nepal
• Strong facilitation skills in building capacity of partner organization and the community members
• Proven analytical abilities, good documentation skills
• Proven leadership quality to facilitate the target groups/ networks in relevant national/regional forums and strong network with state and national government

The candidate must have personal commitment to social equity and equal rights and opportunities and adhere to the staff policies of DCA on Sexual Harassment and Anti-Corruption. DCA Regional Office needs people with excellent interpersonal communication skills and a good sense of humour and team spirit. Willingness and ability to extensive travel and be flexible is essential.
