Unification Nepal Gorkha (UN-Nepal), registered in the District Administration Office (DAO) Gorkha and Social Welfare Council (SWC) in the year 2009, is a non-profit making child-focused organization formed by a team of youth NGO professionals for sustainable development across the country. It is autonomous and politically non partisan organization which is governed by its constitution, financial and administrative policy and code of conduct and other various policies. The organization is implementing various projects with multiple donors and INGOs at Gorkha district and few projects are under pipeline.

It is autonomous and politically non partisan organization which is governed by its statutory/ constitution, financial and administrative policy and code of conduct and other various policies. We have some project with joint venture/ collaboration with different external development partner. This time we are seeking qualified and dynamic WASH officer for Gorkha district.

WASH Officer

Responsibility:

  • To support WASH staff in site selection, design, estimate and construction of community water systems, that include new systems or rehabilitation of existing systems.
  • To support design and implement the most appropriate form of sanitation system, in consultation with the beneficiaries, which includes excreta disposal, refuse disposal and drainage. 
  • To manage/support the Public Health Promotion Team throughout the planning, design and implementation stages of the Public Health Engineering Program. Hygiene promotion is a vital element of such public health engineering program
  • The work will include management and administrative duties and co-ordination with other members of the project and with funding organization.
  • To report regularly, verbally and in writing to the Program Coordinator and WASH Team Leader and to represent the NGO’s, agencies and Government authorities. 
  • To be familiar with and abide by the NGO/Red Cross Code of Conduct, the People in Aid Code, Oxfam International procedures and other regulatory codes (e.g. InterAction Field Co-operation Protocol). 

Requirement: A suitable qualification in any discipline relating to Public Health Engineering is the necessary educational background with bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Most importantly, practical experience, at least one year in appropriate water supplies, sanitation and hygiene promotion. It is desirable that some of this should have been in emergency relief program. The post holder should have a good understanding of the public health needs of poor rural and urban communities and of appropriate ways of tackling them. The post holder must be aware of and sensitive to the particular needs of women in this context, The ability to present concise reports, sometimes at short notice, reflecting the problems and possible solutions for particular situations, Well developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations, Good Coordination skill and staff management skill, Sympathy with the aims and objectives of Oxfam, Commitment to humanitarian principles and action, and to Oxfam’s equal opportunity and gender policies.
