HomeStay Managemen

Nuwakot district

Introduction:

Nuwakot was severely hit by the 15th April devastating earthquake which had not only caused not only lives and assets but also the livelihood of thousands of people who have been surviving difficultly. In order to ease their livelihood strategy all the three partners in district namely CARDSN, SSS and KCDC in partnership with Oxfam Field Office of Nuwakot have been implementing Livelihood support project under Emergency Food Security and Vulnerable Livelihood Program (EFSVL).  Based on the local resources to create employment and self-employment opportunities in order to achieve the goal of the project all the three above mentioned organizations collectively are planning to conduct skill development training on HomeStay Management in the particular location in Nuwakot.

Nuwakot has high potential in terms of tourism and several trekking routs targeting and linking great Annapurna treks.  Nuwakot itself is enriched with historical monument and beautiful flora and fauna into which thousands of tourists from over the world come across the hills to Nuwakot. Many of them prefer to stay with Nepali families and experience their lives and lifestyle closely and deeply.  Many of our communities situated in the high hill landscape have already proved that the HomeStay being run by the small family itself can host with cultural values which has been preferred by thousands of tourists. Through our rapid skill assessment, we found that the majority of homeStay keepers of the district despite having high demand have not been able to maximize their business and to expand the HomeStay to other possible areas. As per the assessment, the region behind that is lack of HomeStay management with them. To create livelihood options for the earthquake households of the particular location of the district, all the partners of Oxfam in the district are collectively undertaking the skill development training on HomeStay Management under the EFSVL project in support with Oxfam Field Office Nuwakot.
