RTI International is seeking a Short-Term Consultant to review IPC Facilitator Guides for HWs and FCHVs.  

The Health for Life (H4L) is a five-year (2012-2017) project financed by USAID. The H4L project builds on accomplishments gained from USAID/Nepal’s health sector investment to date with a greater focus on health systems strengthening and measuring sustainable changes in systems performance. The primary goal of H4L is to strengthen the Government of Nepal’s capacity to plan, manage and deliver high-quality and equitable family planning, maternal, newborn, and child health services. H4L addresses key health system constraints: local health systems governance; data for decision making and evidence-based policy development; capacity development of service providers at grassroots; quality improvement systems, and knowledge and behavior change. Gender equality and social inclusion is an important crosscutting focus of the project. H4L works in partnership with the Government of Nepal/ Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP). The Project works in 12 Districts of the Mid-Western and 2 Districts of Western Development Regions.

Responsibilities:

Major Task for Consultant:

Review existing IPCC training/orientation manuals produced by different organization and develop a new one that is compatible with all health topics, i.e., FP, MNCH, ASRH, HIVs, nutrition, etc.”

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collect and review IPC facilitator guide books developed by NHEICC and counseling training tools/manuals developed by a) FHI on counseling HIV/AIDs clients; b) CRS on FP counseling; c) Suaahara on nutrition counseling; and d) UNFPA on counseling adolescents.
  • Consult with NHECC and H4L on content, outlining session plan and time frame for each topic. The session duration should be well planned for lecture, presentation, group exercise/work and content dissemination. 
  • Besides IPC sections, add counseling section in context a) family planning; b) adolescents; c) newborn and child health; d) nutrition; e) maternal health; and f) HIV/AIDs and communicable diseases. 
  • Add new illustrations and examples from local context in every IPC-C session for easy understanding of the terms and processes. The illustrations should be expressive, meaningful and culturally appropriate
  • In order to make the examples/illustrations accurate and consistent, the existing BCC materials should be taken into consideration and recommended for illustrative purposes as required. 
  • The instructions to the facilitator should be very clear with supporting write-ups in each section, including add-on activities, such as games, group work/exercises, role play and things to do/don't.  The illustrations should be easy reading and easy to understand.

Qualifications and experience:

  • MPH or similar degree with at least 5 years of experience working in the area of FP/MNCH/ASRH programs management and implementation.
  • Good knowledge of Health System of Nepal and experience in conducting trainings/workshops for HWs/FCHVs (experience working in IPCC preferred)
  • Experience working in the field of Development Communication or Behavior Change Communication
  • Experience in drafting Training Manuals and Facilitator Guide books
  • High level of Nepali language writing and typing skills
