Vacancy Notice for Emergency Response Programme
Terre des hommes (Tdh) is a child focused Swiss International NGO that has been working in Nepal for the last 30 years. We are seeking a qualified and dynamic Shelter Manager to join our emergency response project team in Nepal.
Position: Emergency Shelter Manager
Place: Based in Kathmandu with regular visits and deployment to the field
Duration of the contract: Three months
Supervisor – Emergency Programmes Coordinator
Role and responsibilities:
The Shelter manager, plans and support NGO partner in shelter & NFI kit distribution in emergency phase. In post distribution, S/he assess, designs intermediate shelter, executes through NGO partners, monitors it on a daily basis. The Shelter Manager reports directly to the Emergency Program Coordinator.
Broad outline of tasks:
- Support NGO partner to identify and purchase quality shelter, food and NFI materials as per the Sphere standard and Tdh project document.
- During relief phase plans and coordinates the distribution of shelter and NFI kits through the partner NGO.
- Manage the assigned shelter interventions in order to meet the project objectives within budget and within the allotted time frame.
- Provide strong leadership of the assigned shelter intervention working to ensure both short and long-term positive impacts and outcomes for the beneficiaries, local authorities (where applicable) and local NGO staff.
- Develop and implement an appropriate and effective shelter strategy in consultation with other NGO staff and other managers.
- Set clear objectives and indicators for shelter activities in collaboration with the shelter staff, field managers and, where appropriate, with the local communities.
- Continuously monitor and supervise shelter activities, overseeing the technical design and execution and evaluating progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social science, management or related subjects
- A minimum of three years of working experience in related field.
Skills required:
- Computer skills
- Language: Fluent English, Nepalese would be an asset
- Leadership skill
- Flexibility and well developed communication skills
- Negotiation skills
- Ability to work with teams, is self-directed, adaptable to local culture and diplomatic.
