Norlha is an international non-profit, non-political, non-religious association based in Switzerland with Regional Office in Kathmandu that supports remote communities in the Himalayas in building capacities that will allow their sustainable development, through integrated projects in food security, income generation and environment protection, with a strong focus on supporting women. Currently Norlha is developing gender project and is looking for Senior Programme Officer-Gender for its Regional Office in Nepal

Senior Programme Officer- Gender (Full Time)

The Senior Programme Officer – Gender (SPOG) is in charge of the management of gender, women and development portfolio, in particular women centred projects in Nepal. Its activities are shared between Programme and Projects and Women in the Himalayas "Centre" activities and initiatives.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure data gathering on gender, and women related development issues are duly included in assessments, prepared, planned, carried out and reported
  • Analysis of gender-related data and prepare reports
  • Participate to the Gender task force, clusters, coordination meetings in KTM relevant for current or future projects 
  • Provide advice and training to Norlha Regional Office staffs and partners on inclusion of gender sensitive activities or required adjustments; provide technical support to the implementation partner in the field of gender as relevant
  • Design and carries out gender sensitization trainings to Norlha Regional Office and partners staff
  • Prepare project proposals in collaboration with partner
  • Assist in development and planning processes, and implementation phases of gender projects
  • Prepare and undertake project performance assessments
  • Prepare and assist in DPAC and CPAC
  • Review reports, manuals and other documents produced by the partner
  • Draft or complete quarterly and annual project reports for HQ and donors
  • Provide supplementary project information on request of donors and HQ in case
  • Prepare, monitor budget and expenditures of gender projects
  • Alert of potential or arising problems in gender projects in a timely manner, and propose strategies to solve them
  • Help to institutionalize in the regional office Norlha’s gender mainstreaming strategy and tools
  • Network building with women centred organisations, participation at related events and represent Norlha
  • Research / analysis, in a view to further develop the Gender expertise and build our knowledge on the issue
  • Provide information, inputs and views on Gender-related issues within Norlha
  • Other related tasks assigned by Norlha Regional Office.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • 7+ years of field experience in Women  Development
  • Academic qualification: Master in Gender Studies or  related field 
  • Training in political, social, development issues; development experience an asset
  • Theoretical (professional education) and practical (field experiences) competences in Gender, Women and Development
  • Working experiences in technical sector rural context in developing countries (health, education, agriculture, environment) an asset
  • Competences in networking (from small NGOs up to multilaterals)
  • Outgoing and good interpersonal skills 
  • Competences in literature and data analysis; research experience an asset
  • Competences in methods for social research (surveys, observations): data collection, analysis and reporting/publication
  • Competences in translating research findings and field experiences into policy advices
  • Willing to work in a team with professional conduct
