We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented professional for the following positions with the new Nepal Seed and Fertilizer project, funded by USAID and led by CIMMYT:
POSITION: Seed Systems Officer
Reference No: N 16643
Work Station: Kathmandu
Qualification:
- PhD or MSc in plant breeding or seed technology with a minimum of 5 years of experience in seed production and/or seed systems activities.
- Significant and demonstrated practical experience in seed production and/or seed system activities
- Excellent communication and team-building skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise with the national system and local government
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate research results effectively to a wide range of audiences through peer reviewed publications and other means
Description of the position
- Support and strengthen varietal testing in target crops for yield potential, prioritized abiotic (especially drought, heat & waterlogging) and biotic (major diseases) along with other CIMMYT, IRRI, NARC scientists & partners in the region
- Engage seed production research of promising hybrids
- Engage private partners & other seed producers in hybrid uptake, production, promotion and delivery
- Provide technical backstopping & capacity strengthening of seed sector SMEs (small & medium enterprises) and NARES (National Agricultural Research and Extension System) partners in the NSAF project
- Provide capacity building of NARES, seed companies and CBOs/NGOs in seed production technology and management
- Ensure effective networking, collaboration and communication with partners of NSAF
- Contribute to the visibility of NSAF’s research, partnerships and impacts.
