Terre des hommes is the leading Swiss child relief agency. Through our health and protection projects, we provide assistance to over two million children and their families in over thirty countries each year. One of our priorities is to ensure that children and their mothers benefit from proper healthcare. As a result, we have launched a number of innovative projects in this field. They reflect our broader mission to improve access to medical care, water and sanitation in the most underprivileged communities worldwide. In Asia, we currently implement projects in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Nepal. 

Position: Regional Health Advisor (full time)

Starting date: As soon as possible

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Regional Advisor is responsible for building competencies in the field of Health, to ensure the relevance and consistency of the projects carried out in the countries of intervention of the Asian region. (S)He will provide methodological, strategic and technical support for developing regional initiatives: networking and strengthening internal regional dynamics.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Contributes to the development and contextualisation of program strategies and policies at  regional and headquarter levels
  • Participates in country / regional situational assessments, strategic planning,  project design,proposal writing, proposal review, reporting to donorsin line with thematic policies and strategies
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance to country and regional projects/programmes including monitoring, evaluations, capitalizations, baseline surveys, operations research and data analysis
  • Supports programme and projects fundraising by leveraging existing results, identifying and cultivating opportunities, and pursuing these through proposal and concept note development
  • Participates in the recruitment, mentoring  and evaluation of key country programme staff in their thematic area
  • Develops local capacity in their thematic area through formal training
  • Promotes the exchange of experiences and innovations across the region. Documents and shares lessons learned, best practices and research findings in the form of journal articles and presentations and consolidates regional data in periodic reports 
  • Supports efforts to grow the program impact through regional advocacy, relationship building, intelligence gathering and positioning
  • Represents Tdh regional work to key stakeholders
  • Manages budget 
  • Fosters links between his/her field and the other main and cross-cutting thematics
  • Ensures the correct matrix organization structure with the operational staff and the thematic referent 

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Post-graduate qualification in Medicine (MBBS) and public health or a closely related field
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of current evidence-based obstetric care and internationally agreed global strategies and interventions for the reduction of maternal mortality and how to operationalize these
  • Professional experience of 2-5 years in NGOs  
  • Experience in programme design/management, programme quality and performance assessment as part of ongoing efforts to improve aid effectiveness
  • Experience in applying Behavior Change Communication models
  • Experience in community participation in development projects
  • Experience with adult learning methods and tools would be an asset
  • Experience in emergency response would be an asset
  • Experience in  collaborating with local NGOs preferred
  • Knowledge in prospect research a plus
  • Fluency in oral and written communication in English, including representation, liaison and negotiation skills. Knowledge of Bangla and Nepali would be an asset
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets and budgeting)

General conditions: This post has a regional span, salary will be defined according to the local conditions depending on the chosen base duty station
