Our Clients UK HIMALAYAN TRUST and NZ HIMALAYAN TRUST are seeking to recruit a Project Manager-Engineer for their local partner organization HIMALAYAN TRUST NEPAL. In addition, the AUSTRALIAN HIMALAYAN FOUNDATION with the HIMALAYAN TRUSTS are seeking to recruit a Project Manager – Engineer to work with their local partner organization REED NEPAL, to manage the rebuilding of earthquake damaged schools in Solukhumbu District.

HTN is a National NGO established to support the government of Nepal and people of Solukhumbu in education, health, culture, environment and livelihood programmes through an inclusive, innovative and locally-driven governance approach. Established as part of the work of Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa friends in the Everest Region, HTN is dedicated to achieving community-led sustainable mountain development in Solukhumbu District and wider Nepal.

HTN is supported by the Himalayan Trust (New Zealand) and the Himalayan Trust (UK), as well as other donors from Canada, USA, Germany and elsewhere.

REED (www.reednepal.org)

REED Nepal is a National NGO and a leading provider of teacher training in rural Nepal that is undertaken with support from the Australian Himalayan Foundation, Himalayan Trust (UK) and Himalayan Trust (New Zealand). The organization is committed to delivering rights based, inclusive and quality education in rural, marginalized communities. It strives to ensure child friendly learning environments, access to education for all children and increase retention rates in schools. It is currently working in Solukhumbhu and Taplejung districts.

The Positions (2)

Each position is required to manage a rebuilding project for selected earthquake damaged schools in Solukhumbu District, to build back a safer learning environment for children and teachers and a safe refuge in times of natural disaster for the whole community.

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience after graduation.
  • Demonstrated ability of managing significant construction projects for buildings to achieve cost, time, quality, safety and environmental objectives.
  • Strong project management experience, ideally with supervising, constructing and managing community infrastructure building work.
  • Experience in conducting consultations and consensus building with a range of local stakeholders, e.g. community-based organizations, local government authorities, district authorities.
  • Good communication and reporting skills with exposure in reporting to multi donors.
  • Good financial management skills.
  • Should be physically fit to walk for long periods at high altitude as the areas are remote and lack motorable road access.
  • Should be able to work alongside local organizations and international donors.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and work under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Able to spend extensive periods in the field.
