Programme Manager / Project Manager (Charity Volunteers)

Around Good People is a grassroots level volunteering organization focusing on healthcare delivery in remote communities of Nepal. It also plans to provide a wide range of international volunteering opportunities for students and professionals in collaboration with leading NGOs and individual Projects all over Nepal. It will also provide overseas healthcare electives placements for medical/dental students in collaboration with the teaching hospitals.

ROLE:

AGP has an ambitious Volunteering placement Strategy that is currently delivering a high quality volunteer programme to recruit, develop and retain volunteers in a variety of roles.

The Programme Manager / Project Manager will provide leadership, support and recognition of their volunteers across the charity. A collaborative working style engaging staff across the organization is essential to ensure that the organization`s overall objectives are met and internal and external relationships are developed and maintained to ensure maximum impact.

This is a challenging and rewarding position working in a healthcare delivery, volunteering placement in established NGOs projects’ charity. The ideal candidate will have gained considerable knowledge and experience of working within a volunteer or people-led capacity. You will be a confident presenter and negotiator, self-motivated and committed to the highest standards of volunteer management. The role requires managing a small, dedicated team of staff and will require travel across Nepal.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the volunteer department; ensuring that AGP develops and sustains high quality volunteer activity in support of its charitable goals.
  • Be a senior ambassador of AGP at a regional level, championing the support and use of volunteers within the organization.
  • Work cross-organizations to ensure implementation and ownership of the Project Model for AGP.
  • Research and apply best volunteering practice with the aim of achieving a recognized volunteering quality standard.
  • Promote volunteering opportunities and the recruitment of volunteers and develop volunteers` training programmes.
  • Represent AGP on key national and regional bodies.
  • Co-ordinate the volunteer programme and line manage 2 x Volunteer Co-ordinators and Team Administrator.
  • Raise the regional and national and international profile of AGP through volunteers.
  • Input and support funding applications relating to volunteering.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, scope, design and deliver all support mechanisms for implementing a new project of international volunteering and medical electives placement in various teaching hospitals in Nepal.
  • Prepare all relevant documentation, including tools and templates to help participating volunteers and medical elective students select the placement.
  • Capacity building, networking and partnerships, including establishing and maintaining relationships with partner hospitals, village communities, educational institutions, host families, hospitality entities and other stakeholders;
  • Develop and maintain a community of practice for visiting international volunteers to share experiences and learning, and to update and reinforce action research methodology and processes;
  • Attend site visits to provide additional support to the field teams and the volunteers where necessary;
  • Host regular webinars to further develop the community of practice, as well as provide opportunity for informal support, reflection and dialogue;
  • Provide assistance to students through problem-solving and research;
  • Review learnings at each reflect stage of the action volunteering cycles;
  • Work collaboratively with other Around Good People team members; and
  • Provide assistance to the Chairman & CEO and  other Managers as required.

ESENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as Hotel & Tourism/Hospitality, Management, Sociology, Public Health, Social Work, etc. or
  • Bachelor’s Degree with exceptionally proven track records.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, managing and conducting volunteering action projects in academic/public health/community services/government settings;
  • Demonstrated experience in project management in academic/community services/government
  • Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills, specifically a proactive attitude to relationship building and experience in working with multiple stakeholders and a proven capacity to build partnerships with government and non-government stakeholders;
  • Experience managing staff and ability to lead a small team to meet strict deadlines;
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and written and oral communication skills; and
  • Understanding of issues affecting socio-economic and politico scenario of Nepal, as well as competence in working effectively with people in these groups.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Significant experience of working effectively with volunteers and volunteer groups / committees on project development and delivery. Experience of researching, designing and consulting on volunteer strategy.
  • Experience of successful project management working across departments or directorates within a dispersed organisation. Experience of developing and improving volunteer management quality standards in a voluntary organisation.
  • Understanding of the voluntary sector and volunteers and its ways of working with knowledge and understanding of inclusive ways of working.
  • IT Literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Able to work effectively in partnership with others; able to provide specialist lead on specific volunteering issues for the organisation.
  • Skilled communicator at all levels; including ability to deliver messages about change effectively and appropriately.
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships and provide first class customer care. Commitment to working outside normal office hours, at weekends and away from home when the job requires this.
  • Setting and successful management of annual plans and budgets.
  • Experience of monitoring and reporting on volunteer activity and impact in an engaging and meaningful way.
  • A full driving licence and own transport(2-wheelers) are essential as applicants should be able to undertake independent travel.
