Job Summary:

The Nutrition Program Officer (NPO) is responsible to support the Nutrition Program manager (NPM) in the implementation of the nutrition project according to international and national standards in a timely and efficient manner to meet the objectives of International Medical corps in Nepal.

The NPO will provide technical assistance and monitoring for the improvement of Nutrition services to improve quality and coverage. 

The NPO will be a medical professional with significant experience in the implementation of training and supervision in Nutrition programs. He (she) will be based in Kathmandu IMC office with half of the time in the field.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide technical assistance in the implementation and monitoring of the Stabilization Centers project in 7 districts.

• Assist to Develop and coordinate on job training activities for hospital staffs, care givers and other health workers.

•   Assist to conduct supportive supervision, monitoring of stock of medicines and supplies in the SCs.

•   Assist the NPM in the timely representation of IMC in the District level coordination meetings on referrals and reviews of nutrition interventions.

•   Analyze data from nutrition project and provide inputs to be used for quality assessment and improvements in overall program quality.

•   Participate in the needs assessment to identify  gaps in community or health facility knowledge or practices and assist the PM in the design of cost-effective activities to meet needs.

•   Support to coordinate very closely with logistics in order to ensure that there is no break in nutrition program supplies.

•   Support with the organization and follow-up on all other procurements needed for the projects.

•  Report to the  NPM in all aspects of project  management as needed.

 

Minimum Education and Qualification:

•   Bachelor's in Nutrition, and/or Nursing, and an advanced degree in Public Health (Master's degree in a relavant field would be advantageous)

•   Proven clinical, management and evaluation skills particularly in the Management of Acute malnutrition in hospitals or primary health care. 

•   Sound knowledge on overall IMAM program of Nepal.

•   Proven technical knowledge on Stabilization Center treatment/management.

•   Proven technical knowledge of on data  nutrition management of health facilities.

•   Four or more years work experience in nutrition and health related field. Ideally with 2 or more years’ experience in Nutrition and Health programs in Nepal.

•   English (fluent) speaking and writing skills.  Computer and statistical analysis proficiency.

•   Demonstrated new program development experience preferred.
