International Medical Corps is working in support of the Government of Nepal’s response efforts. We were among the first INGOs on the ground and operational following the earthquake, providing medical treatment and essential supplies. Our technical staff on the ground now includes physicians, nurses, surgeons, as well as specialists in water, sanitation and hygiene, mental health and psycho-social support and nutrition.

Summary Duties and Responsibilities

General knowledge of International Medical Corps code of conduct and ethics

Respect all IMC rules and procedures including IMC security rules

 

1. Capacity Building and Coordination

 

  • Coordinate with the Ministry of Health and Population and other national/district level actors to facilitate the timely implementation of projects and objectives, ensure program design address the needs and priorities of the country
  • Liaise with nutrition experts, district nutritionists and others to ensure that specialized support is available at the field/district/activity level to increase coverage and overall efficacy of the program
  • Represent International Medical Corps in national and district coordination meetings including the national or sub-national nutrition cluster, provide minutes to supervisor
  • Assess training needs of nutrition staff, develop a training program for staff in order to address any gaps
  • Coordinate with other sectoral program managers with International Medical Corps’ program to ensure that other parts of the program are functioning in order to maximize nutrition intervention’s impact

 

2. Program Finance, Logistics and Administration

 

  • Assist in staff recruitment and training, conduct performance monitoring in collaboration with HR, ensure that standards and protocols are adhered to
  • Assist in reviewing program budgets and ensure that there is regular alignment of the budget in regards to expenditures
  • Guide and support project manager to ensure equitable allocation of human, material and financial resources
  • Support to coordinate very closely with logistics in order to ensure that there is no break in nutrition program supplies.
  • Support with the organization and follow-up on all other procurements needed for the projects

 

3. Program Development and Implementation

 

  • Support with the identification of potential nutrition and nutrition-related projects for development, liaise with interested partners and stakeholders
  • Support with the identification of existing project implementation gaps and address any issues with partners, donors and stakeholders
  • Analyze data from nutrition programs and provide inputs to be used for quality assessment and improvements in overall program quality
  • Demonstrated understanding of the underlying causes of malnutrition and ensuring that the IMC project is addressing these underlying causes
  • Demonstrated understanding of multi-sectoral approach to malnutrition and ensuring that nutrition project beneficiaries are linked with other sector interventions
  • Identify gaps in the nutrition support for the earthquake affected districts, and help decision making on potential nutrition projects for International Medical Corps

 

4. Reporting

 

  • In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation staff, review field implementation plans and assessment/surveys when needed to ensure quality and timely reporting
  • Submit timely monthly report with reliable data and proper analysis and action points to deal with any program problems

 

 5. Additional Tasks:

 

  • Good relationships with Ministry of Health and Population and other national/district level actors
  • Representation at meetings
  • Coordination within other departments of IMC to ensure smooth implementation (logistics, finance, HR, technical units)
  • All necessary staff are recruited and have been trained on identified gaps
  • All budgets are accurate, are updated and spending is timely
  • All necessary items are procured and distributed in a timely fashion
  • All nutrition programs are implemented with high quality and coverage and are integrated with other sectors when appropriate
  • Reporting on nutrition activities is timely and with high quality
  • Other duties as needed

 

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and 7+ years relevant work experience OR Master’s degree in Nutrition/Public Health and 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in nutrition programs; previous program development/management experience in a humanitarian/emergency context is an asset; experience in training national staff required
  • Fluent in Nepali and English required
  • Ability to train national staff on nutrition response in emergency settings
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong supervisory and organization skills
  • Flexible and able to deal with stressful situations
  • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources in difficult settings
  • Good knowledge of human resources management and some experience in finance and logistic
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, able to effectively present information clearly and respond appropriate to questions senior managers, counterparts, senior government leaders and donors
