Mission East (ME) is a Danish NGO which has been working in Nepal from 2007. The organisation has two major programme units – one for long term development work in the Karnali district and the other for earthquake recovery work in the earthquake zone.
ME is looking for a dynamic Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist who is able and willing to work both within the office structure and within the field work areas. The Specialist will work closely with all program units and there will be opportunities for experimentation and learning within the programs and within Mission East.The position is based in Kathmandu with travel to the Mid-Western region (Karnali) and the earthquake recovery areas.
Position Title: Monitoring And Evaluation Specialist
The context: Mission East (ME) is a Danish NGO which has been working in Nepal for many years. The organisation has two major programme units – one is in support of long term development work in the Karnali district and the other for earthquake recovery work in the earthquake zone.
The Specialist will work closely with all program units and there will be opportunities for experimentation and learning within the programs and within Mission East.
Location / department: Based in Kathmandu with travel to the Mid-Western region (Karnali) and the earthquake recovery areas
Length of contract: 1 year with possibility of extension
Responsible to: Program Manager-Capacity Building and Quality Assurance
Coordinate with: Other programme team and local partners
Overall responsibility: To develop and lead M&E processes for all projects and programs in collaboration with the head of the Karnali Support Program and the head of the Emergency Recovery Program
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop appropriate M&E mechanism, methods and tools required for all programs according to Mission East and Donor requirements
- Consult with Mission East Partner organizations to consolidate M& E methodology and roll out M&E process as per organizational requirements
- Ensure M&E approaches are designed in accordance with ME Nepal core mandate on inclusion, hence includes accurate statistic data across gender, age, abilities, ethnicity etc. and DRR
- Provide feedback to the program to enhance its quality as per the result of M&E
- Orient field program staff and ensure that M&E is an integral part of any program for both partner agencies and ME
- Ensure that any cost related to M&E is included in funding proposal development – including the collection of baseline data, mid-term and final evaluations and necessary monitoring field visits.
- Analyze the on-going programs to ensure they include robust M&E processes.
- Develop good relationships with ME partners and assist them to build their own M&E capacities
- Produce regular M&E reports as required by both ME and donors.
- Manage systematically quantitative (project beneficiary databases) and qualitative programs data, and feed to the senior management on regular time intervals
- Document lessons learnt and case stories as required by the organization.
- Contribute to report writing (internal and external to donors).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as sociology, social anthropology, social work, statistics, development etc.
Prior Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years relevant M&E work experiences in NGOs/ INGOs
- Competencies in developing and managing M&E systems.
- Skilled in qualitative and quantitative research methods and in using quantitative data analysis software
- Excellent report writing in English.
Necessary Skill competencies:
- Good written and spoken English.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Access, mobile/online survey toolsetc).
- Ability to work flexibly and to meet deadlines
- Excellent teamwork abilities
