The Kakani Centre for Development of Community (KCDC) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1993, and since then has implemented projects in the sectors of children trafficking, HIV/AIDS, child labor, health and nutrition, education, agriculture and disaster risk reduction with gender as a cross-cutting issue in partnership with Nepal government and other agencies. KCDC is now implementing the 'Humanitarian Assistance to People Affected by Earthquake' project in the VDCs of Nuwakot district in partnership of Oxfam GB. INTRODUCTION

KCDC with partnership of Oxfam has been actively working in 3 VDC of Nuwakot after the devastating Earthquake. As part of Oxfam and KCDC’s commitment to contribute in the reconstruction process, KCDC intends to conduct 7 days mason training on earthquake resilient building techniques formasons in order to increase the availability of trained masons in the districts and increase people’s access to skilled labor for reconstruction of houses and community structures. 

For this purpose, we are seeking technical experienced young professionals who have ease in conducting masons’ training on earthquake resilient building techniques of rural housing as per DUDBC guideline. 

OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

  • To conduct 4 numbers of Mason Training, 2 in each Betini and Thaprek VDC of Nuwakot according to the approved curriculum of DUDBC
  • To document the training process and reporting each training session
  • Facilitate the registration process of the trained masons with DUDBC roster

SCOPE OF WORK

  • The resource person should be able to conduct training according to the requirements outlined in the objectives above and provide visual based timely reports.
  • Lead the mason training in the provided VDC of KCDC.
  • Conduct the mason training for rural housing curriculum of DUDBC.
  • Take the pre-test and posttest and submit the result of the achievement by the interactive report.
  • Make the participant familiar with handling the basic mason tools.
  • Carry out all the theory and practical session as per the curriculum.
  • Theory class should be carried out through the power point presentation and appropriate IEC material.
  • In practical session, all the sessions mentioned the curriculum should be carried out with quality works.
  • Quality assurance should be mandatory during the theory as well as practical session.
  • Materials provided by the organization should be assessed before using in the practical session.
  • Manage day to day activity, problem and session in close coordination with the KCDC staff as well as Oxfam staff.
  • The consultant should incorporate the feedback from OXFAM and KCDC staffs. 
  • Submit training report after the completion of each training, mentioning methodology, introduction of session, achievement and name of the trainee.

GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE: Thaprek and Betini of Nuwakot district

EXPECTED OUTPUT

  • Thaprek and Betini VDCs have 120 trained masons as per the curriculum of DUDBC. 
  • Trained masons are listed in the DUDBC roster for greater livelihoods opportunity in reconstruction
  • The skill and knowledge of participants are enhanced on earthquake resilient building technology of rural housing

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE

  • B.E. in civil Engineering with at least three years of experience in earthquake resilient building construction
  • Candidate should have TOT on earthquake resistant building construction technology as per DUDBC curriculum for engineering professional
  • Candidate should have experience of conduction of at least 5 masons training in renowned organization
  • Most importantly, practical experience in earthquake resistant building construction, especially in rural areas of Nepal
  • Well-developed interpersonal and team mobilization and facilitation skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations
  • Good written and spoken English is essential
  • Very good report writing skills 
  • Willingness to travel very remote areas
