Gorkha Gaun Resort was born out of a dream to create a place of retreat in a small gaun (village) environment. Using local resources our team works to provide a space to relax while ensuring the sustainable development of the local community. As an initiative to Responsible Tourism, Gorkha Gaun generates most of its electrical energy from solar panels, has plans for its own waste water treatment and water recycling systems, harvesting bio-gas, harvesting and recharging rain water. Gorkha Gaun has total of 16 rooms in operation with restaurant/bar and outdoor seating. Our total team members will be around 20 – 25 during our full operation period. Our Vision is to be recognized as one of the best resorts (in our category of resorts) in Nepal by 2020. We try to take sustainable approach in everything we do. Line Cook – 1 based in Gorkha 

Job Description

Line Cook (LC) position is based in Gorkha Gaun Resort in Gorkha. Line Cook (LC) will be overall responsible for the implementation of Kitchen Operation Plan (KOP). In coordination with Head Cook, LC will be expected to provide needed support to run overall operation of the kitchen such as food preparation, updating inventory, ordering supplies, management of kitchen staff for general food service and functions. It is expected that LC comes with learning attitude. LC is expected to deliver the quality food in a timely and consistent manner in coordination with other kitchen and restaurant staff. Team work is a must for this position. 

You must possess the ability to work well under pressure and multitask, as you will have to provide support in creating multiple dishes, cook at multiple stages and perform at high speed to ensure that food goes out to guests in good time and with quality. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the kitchen team and under supervision of Head Cook, ensure structured implementation of day to day operation of the Kitchen 
  • Ensure that the quality of prepared food is to the standard and delivered on time with consistency 
  • Document recipes of the food on the menu  
  • Ensure that Staff Menu is implemented correctly 
  • Works in a team within the kitchen, floor (wait) and beyond to achieve the set goals by the head cook 
  • Update and maintain inventory and order/stock items needed as guided by the HC  
  • Coordinates with different departments in day to day operation 
  • In coordination with head cook plan and develop recipes and menus, considering factors such as seasonal availability of ingredients, the likely number of customers, portion size and final menu price.
  • Check the quantity and quality of received products to ensure items are as ordered and standards are met.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels to reduce wastage.
  • Other tasks as required and directed by the head cook and the management 

Requirements: 

  • School Leaving Certificate (10th grade) or High School (10+2) 
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Line Cook or similar experience in hospitality sector  
  • Experience in successful implementation of a wide range of responsibilities in a prior Kitchen position 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Nepali 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and email will be an added benefit 

Salary and Benefits: 

  • Starting salary will depend upon the experience and qualification 
  • 6 month probation 
  • After probation review, Dashain Bonus and other benefits will be applicable
