Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF) was established in April 2010 with a mission to have concerted public health action, research, and policy dialogue for health development, particularly of the socio-economically marginalized population. NPHF has a vision to ensure health as the right and responsibility of the Nepali people with its focus on major public health issues such as Health Policy and Systems, Human Resource, Communicable Disease, Non-Communicable Disease, Malnutrition etc. Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF) is committed to improve health system, generating quality evidences for policy formulation process through high quality survey and operational research.

Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF) was established in April 2010 with a mission to have concerted public health action, research, and policy dialogue for health development, particularly of the socio-economically marginalized population. NPHF has a vision to ensure health as the right and responsibility of the Nepali people with its focus on major public health issues such as Health Policy and Systems Research, Human Resource, Communicable Disease, Non-Communicable Disease, Malnutrition, Maternal and Child Health etc.

Internship opportunity will be provided depending on the needs of the organization, qualification and interest of the candidate. A term of reference outlining of the work will prepared and discussed with prospective interns beforehand.

NPHF has been taking interns from TRIBHUVAN UNIVERSITY- INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE, B.P. KOIRALA INSTITUTE OF HEALTH SCIENCES, WAGENINGEN UNIVERSITY, The Netherlands and LUND UNIVERISTY, Sweden and individual applicants.

Duration

Intern can be accepted for a minimum period of 4 weeks to maximum 3 months. After completion of term, competent candidates will be evaluated for job opportunities. Nepali interns working within Nepal may quit before the completion of internship period if they get job opportunity elsewhere.

Internship fee for:

  • Nepalese candidate studying inside Nepal: No fees
  • SAARC countries candidate: USD 35 per week
  • International candidate: USD 150 per week

The above charges are for office space, communication, internet, utilities, refreshment etc.

Health Insurance and health expenditure during illness and other incidental expenses will be responsibility of individual.

All successful international applicants are expected to make their own arrangements for visa in case of expatriate as applicable, travel, lodging and living expenses during the internship period. NPHF will provide assistance where feasible.

Working hours

Working hours is from Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 17:30 during summer and 09:30 to 16:30 during winter.

Leave

Time off may be exceptionally granted by the mentor/supervisor as long as the assignment is not adversely affected.

Sick leave

In case of illness, the supervisor should be informed beforehand. Long periods of absence, through illness or for other reasons, would be recorded in the written performance evaluation prepared by the supervisor at the end of the assignment.

Opportunity

Under the overall guidance and close monitoring of mentor/ supervisor, interns will get an opportunity to involve in ongoing research activities, program and its implementation. S/he will get platform to enhance their academic knowledge and scientific articles and can also explore public health scenario in Nepal in practical manner.

Ongoing projects

Post disaster need assessment on health was carried out in 14 highly earthquake affected districts under the financial support by Project HOPE, India. After the assessment, one of the districts was selected to implement maternal neonatal and child health related intervention. Eventually, a project entitled SPARSH has been implemented in Makwanpur districts (one of the disaster affected districts) targeting to reach the unreached group of people like Chepang, Tamang and focusing on maternal, neonatal, child health and nutrition. SPARSH Project is being implemented in five remote VDCs of Makwanpur district (Raksiryang, Khairang, Bharta, Sarikhet and Kakada) regarding maternal, neonatal, child health and nutrition.

SAHaS Project (Strengthening and Activating District Health System) is being implemented in 72 VDCs of 9 earthquake affected districts in support of UNICEFF, Nepal. This project aims to reactivate and strengthen the health system giving special focus to highly vulnerable group like pregnant and lactating mothers by conducting and strengthening Mothers Group meeting and Health Facility Operation Management Meeting (HFOMC).

As a part of global effort to preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics, the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership (GARP) Nepal was initiated by Nepal Public Health Foundation.

GARP Nepal works to create greater awareness among policy makers about the growing threat of antibiotic resistance and develop country relevant solutions. GARP Nepal has been conducting various activities like researches, awareness raising programs, identifying policies and actions that could set a course for antibiotic sustainability. GARP Nepal has been carrying out a series of activities to mark “World Antibiotic Awareness Week” from 14-20 November since 2015. The activities include walkathon, cycle rally, and essay and poster competitions in various institutions of Nepal on the use of Antibiotics, IEC material distribution, awareness corners and talk programs for the dissemination of information to the general public on the rational use of antibiotics.

Alternative Health Financing project is a qualitative research project which aims to explore sustainable health financing model for universal health coverage in context of Nepal. It will further explore possible ways of financial resources generation and their equitable and efficient allocation in health care system of Nepal. Findings of the study will be used for advocacy and lobbying with Government of Nepal in Health Financing.

NPHF completed four years long WHO supported implementation research project in Overcoming Barriers to Scaling Skilled Birth Attendants' Utilization in improving Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in Nepal.

Areas of accountability:

  • Collect updated training manuals, guidelines, SOPs for research proposal and retrieval literature review / program team in drafting research proposal
  • Support research/ program team in drafting research proposal
  • Support and contribute to development and production of documents and written materials relating to program/ research, review and concept papers.
  • Publication, documentation and report writing etc.
  • Data management (Data safety and quality control)
  • Support program team in program planning and implementation including development of training plan, capacity development plan etc.
  • Collect, compile and produce case studies and success stories of ongoing program and activities of NPHF.
  • Exploration about international collaboration with Universities.
  • Undertake other function as requested by supervisor.
  • Any other work as per the direction of Nepal Public Health Foundation.
