TERMS OF REFERENCE

Agronomist - 3 Months (with possibility of extension)

DUTY STATION: Kathmandu, Dhading Besi, Sindupalchok

ACTED BACKGROUND:

Since 1993, as an international non-governmental organization, ACTED has been committed to immediate humanitarian relief to support those in urgent need and protect people’s dignity, while co-creating longer term opportunities for sustainable growth and fulfilling people’s potential.

ACTED is present in four continents and our teams intervene in 34 countries towards 8 million people, responding to emergency situations, supporting rehabilitation projects and accompanying the dynamics of development

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist in the preparation of guidelines for selection of pilot initiatives and presentation to local communities;

- Provide technical assistance to candidate farmers for the preparation of pilot project proposals;

- Participate to the selection of pilot initiatives;

- Preparation of pilot projects implementation plans and budgets;

- Provide technical assistance to selected farmers for the implementation of planned activities;

- Provide on-farm technical assistance/training to selected farmers for sustainable soil management (terracing, intercropping, contour ridging, etc.) in respect of RAC recommendations;

- Support farmer groups and activities for sharing and capitalization of experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

- Degree in Agronomy or Agriculture;

- Professional experience in sustainable agricultural production;

- Professional experience in supporting/strengthening farmer groups

- Excellent knowledge of soil conservation techniques;

- Experience in project cycle management.

- Desirable: knowledge of the area

Languages: Fluency in English and Nepali.
