International Medical Corps has responded to every major disaster of the last 30 years, delivering more than $2 billion in assistance and training in more than 70 countries. International Medical Corps is working in support of the Government of Nepal’s response efforts. We were among the first INGOs on the ground and operational following the earthquake, providing medical treatment and essential supplies. Our technical staff on the ground now includes physicians, nurses, surgeons, as well as specialists in water, sanitation and hygiene, mental health and psycho-social support and nutrition.

Details / requirements:

 

            The health programs in Nepal of International Medical Corps directly supports the immediate effect of the earthquake that struck the country in April 2015.  It started with Mobile Medical Units deployed in Dhading and Gorkha Districts reaching hard to reach areas, giving medical care to earthquake survivors.  At the end of May, the response transitioned to rehabilittaion phase.  Currently, International Medical Corps' health program is operating a Physiotherapy Unit at the Gorkha Distrcit Hospital Grounds. 

 

JOB\SUMMARY


            The position will be responsible for ensuring program quality by developing and providing standard resource materials to the health team and ensuring implementation through the field staff.
The Health Prgram Manager should be flexible to be operating in Kathmandu or to remote VDCs to monitor the implementation of the projects and to coordinate with the Ministry of Health and Population.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES



1. Program Management


- Work closely with the field teams to determine the operational needs of the program
- Analyze data gathered and propose alternative strategies of program implementation
- Compile monthly and quarterly reports, ensuring statistics are correct and on time
- Implement and maintain prescribed reporting systems, in collaboration with Monitoring and Evaluation officers,  to monitor and evaluate the objectives, indicators and outcomes of the health programs
- Contribute to production of proposals for new projects
- Work with field teams and logistics to procure program supplies within program budgets
- Regularly update country office on progression of programs as per protocol
- Compile program reports and assists with development of future programs as needed
- Liaise closely with local authorities (LDO, CDO, DPHO), donor and partner agencies to ensure program compliance with donor policies and regulations and complementary with other agencies' efforts
- Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed

2. Representation
- Attend coordination meetings, health cluster meeting and injury rehabilitation meetings which are relevant to the current programs inplemented in Gorkha
- Represent the organization at task force meetings, assessment missions, camp coordination meetings, UN coordination meetings (UN OCHA), INGO coordination meetings as appropriate
- Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organizations Code of Conduct, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to internal and external actors

-Maintains an open communicaiton with local authorities (LDO, CDO and DPHO), keeps them informed of the implementation of the prorgams in the districtand VDC level

3. Human Resources Management
- Supervise staff to ensure their smooth and effective operations

-  Orients staff members in the general and specific objectives / goals of the prgrams
- Assist in the selection and training of qualified program staff and recommend promotions, disciplinary action and termination of staff in consultation with the Program Coordinator, Country Director and Finance Director
- Ensure compliance to local labor laws including working hours
- Maintain open lines of communications with all field staff



4. Training/ Capacity Building
- Determine training needs for subordinate staff
- Train national staff to increase their responsibilities in order to build capacity and ensure sustainability of programs
- Advocate and plan for professional development for all subordinate staff

5. Working Relationships
- Maintain frequent communication with Program Coordinator/Country Director to ensure program activities and objectives are communicated
- Work with Logistics staff to ensure the coordination of programs supplies are within budgeted targets
- Attend coordination meetings which are relevant to country activities eg. Senior Management Meeetings and all staff meetings
- Interface with national government and relevant agencies as necessary

6. Security
- Ensures application and compliance of security protocols and policies

 

-  Reports to the security officer in the country all necessary

7. Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

8. Other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
