We were among the first INGOs on the ground and operational following the earthquake, providing medical treatment and essential supplies. Our technical staff on the ground now includes physicians, nurses, surgeons, as well as specialists in water, sanitation and hygiene, mental health and psycho-social support and nutrition.

Details / requirements:

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Program Manager the Program Officer will provide support to the management of the Gender Based Violence Programs. The program officer will work closely with program manager and implementing partners to design strategies and coordinate all GBV and gender-related activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides support and guidance to partner NGOs to ensure quality implementation and output in relation to agreed GBV objectives.
  • Collects and analyzes relevant data and assist the GBV Manager to collate and prepare reports and other key documents
  • Visits the GBV program sites on a regular basis and provide technical guidance to recommend changes for improvement in program and service working closely with Program Manager. 
  • Provides orientations on GBV and gender issues to key staff internally and externally as and when needed
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the program on a monthly basis, and submit monthly reports to the Program manager
  • Collaborates with the Outreach team, Finance/Admin and Procurement and Logistics Manager to ensure that program supplies and resources are available in a timely manner to support workshops, events and research conducted by outside consultants;
  • Works closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team in developing, monitoring and reporting on indicators related to GBV and gender activities;
  • Develops monthly budget forecasts and reconcile budgeted to expended amounts.
  • Identifies training needs for GBV implementing partners and develop capacity building program to strengthen personnel base and implementation of programs.
  • Supports coordinates and participate in GBV taskforce / sub cluster meetings with relevant partners and stakeholders;
  • Participates in key forums representing IMC, providing key information from the field for relevant stakeholders, raise awareness on key issues relating to GBV;
  • Maintains strong working relationships with all relevant stakeholders throughout program cycle and devise appropriate capacity building strategies to ensure development and sustainability of all GBV program activities;
  • Represent IMC at official forums as requested by the Program Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master degree in public health, gender studies or related field preferred, however IMC will consider candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and five years experience in women’s or GBV issues
  • At least 2 years experience implementing GBV related initiatives which can include a combination of community-based awareness-raising and prevention and/or facility based work developing capacity of (training) service providers to respond meaningfully to GBV
  • Demonstrated understanding of the link between gender norms, GBV and HIV vulnerability
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Nepalese context
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation of GBV focused interventions
  • Proficiency in English and Nepali required;
  • Ability to travel in country up to 50% of the time
