Job Description:

Background:

Medecins du Monde – France (MdM-F) is a medical INGO that has worked in Nepal since 1995, initially focusing on TB and HIV control activities in the west of the country. Since 2007 our focus has been in Sindhupalchok District where we have implemented a 9 year project that works with womens cooperatives to promote sexual and reproductive health along with support to livelihoods through microfinance activities. Following the 2015 earthquakes we scaled up to provide an emergency response – running mobile medical clinics, rebuilding health facilities, supporting the District Health Authorities, and revitalizing the womens cooperatives. This work will continue until at least July 2018.

Globally MdM-F has 5 priority sectors of intervention: harm reduction, migrant health, health in crises and emergencies, sexual and reproductive health, and environmental health. We are now considering a new project in Nepal that will address the specific health needs of people working in the waste industry in the Kathmandu Valley. We are looking to recruit an experienced health professional to coordinate a thorough 3 month project assessment.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Manage the process of data collection - develop the ToR for an organization who will collect data; closely monitor and quality check the data; ensure that the ToR is achieved.
  • Coordinate with the MdM programme team (General Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Program Supervisor, Medical Coordinator) to keep them updated and to ensure that they provide direction and inputs as required
  • Organize the visit of the ‘Responsible Mission’ who will provide technical input to the data analysis and proposal development
  • Conduct field visits and assessments
  • Represent MdM-F and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders – authorities, civil society, waste worker organizations
  • Organize a workshop for key stakeholders to present the details of the data collection and develop ideas on a way forward
  • With inputs from the RM and programme team, prepare a high quality project proposal that will be presented to the General Coordinator and the MdM-F Nepal Desk Officer in Paris at the end of the assessment and workshops.

Profile sought:

Essential (will not be considered without meeting these requirements):

  • Masters in Public Health (MPH)
  • Research experience – writing and presenting professional research papers
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in working with local health NGOs in Nepal
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with a health INGO in Nepal
  • Experience in data collection and analysis
  • Fluent spoken Nepali and English, with the ability to write in English at a professional level

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with the MdM network
  • Experience in assessment / research in environmental health
