Gramin Mahila Srijanshil Pariwar (GMSP) is a community based non profit and non government organization, located in Sindhupalchok district. It is established to work and advocate against human trafficking, slavery, gender based violence and to promote human rights, peace, women rights and child rights. Along with this, this organization it has been working for earthquake relief, reconstruction, WASH, education, income generating activities and mass awareness at present. The organization is seeking a qualified candidate to fulfil the following vacant position to implement its new project Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and WASH Project in Sindhupalchok.

Designation: Disaster Risk Reduction Officer (DRR Officer) 

Required No: 1 (one) 

Location: Sindhupalchok District 

Duty station: Office base with frequent travel to project area

Report to: Program Manager/ Executive Director

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager of GMSP and the advisory guidance of the Executive Director, the DRR officer will be responsible for the following areas/activities: 

Program Management

  • Developing a realistic, prioritized, results-based work plan for: technical input to, coordination,
  • Supervision, tracking, quality assurance of; and reporting on all GMSP DRR/resilience programming.
  • Effectively managing daily program, including planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting. 
  • Troubleshoot challenges which arise in project cycle management.
  • Conduct routine program reviews to ensure successful implementation

Program Development & Capacity Building

  • Provide direct technical support and capacity to GMSP staff in program design, training development, program implementation, and developing strategic directions 
  • Developing lessons learned from ongoing DRR/resilience programming and implementation experiences
  • Identification and cultivation of new opportunities for program growth and development

Coordination

  • Representing GMSP at relevant thematic technical working groups, e.g. Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction Consortium 
  • Coordinate with other NGOs/INGOs on issues of common advocacy related to DRR/resilience 
  • Collaborating and coordinating with as well as maintaining good relationships and contacts with existing government structures and local authorities such as emergency management mechanisms and local authorities;
  • Inter and Intra organizational communication and coordination

Reporting

  • Developing and submitting reports as required on project initiation, progress, closeout and/or any alternative compliance reports necessary for projects in the DRR/resilience portfolio.
  • Developing and submitting update reporting as required by GMSP senior management;
  • Responsible for ensuring quality reporting from field;
  • Qualified to undertake independent report writing;

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:

  • A Bachelor's  Degree (Master's Degree is highly preferable)  in Disaster Risk Management/Risk Reduction, Public Health, Environmental Management, WASH, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and/or Development
  • 3 years experience working on one or a combination of disaster risk management/risk reduction, community disaster risk reduction, health emergency preparedness and response and/or resilient livelihood programming or WASH.
  • Proven experience in program development, management, including scheduling, budget development and budget management
  • Good understanding of Nepal’s national disaster management structure, systems, plans and priorities including sectoral emergency preparedness and response mechanisms
  • Knowledge of participatory approaches and community sensitization and mobilization.
  • Strong organizational & supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work within a team structure or independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within different cultural & stressful environments
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
  • Experience with the development, implementation & compliance of donor funded programs would be an asset.
  • Familiarity and functional competence in Microsoft Office and other applications.
  • Ability to effectively represent GMSP and its interests to key stakeholders including host governments, and national and international NGOs.
  • Fluency in Nepali and English language 
  • Ability to travel on short notice to project sites.
  • Strong Capacity for conflict resolution.

Salary for the above mentioned position is negotiable. Competitive salary will be provided on the basis of experience, commitment and background. Other benefits will be as per the organization rules.
