FOR FOLLOW UP OF SEVERE MALNOURISHED CHILDREN (FUSAM) PROJECT

The FUSAM project is a research project to study and understand the impact of a brief psychosocial intervention combined with Community Based Management of Malnutrition (CMAM) on child health, growth and development.

The overall objective of the research is to assess the effectiveness of a combined nutrition and psychosocial intervention to a stand-alone nutritional treatment of children with uncomplicated Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) aged 6 to 24 months admitted in CMAM programme in Nepal. Adding a psychosocial component to nutritional treatment will strengthen the response to the treatment of severe acute malnutrition by focusing on underlying determinants of acute malnutrition, such as child care practices and parent-child relationships, to ensure optimum development of children.

This position is open only for Nepali Nationality. The position is based in Rajbiraj, Saptari. This position is for six months (may extend if required)

Objective of post: To guarantee the comprehensive processing of project data from processing (entry) through to analysis, and to formulate any recommendations and notifications required to improve the process

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create Excel data files based on tools
  • Check the quality of data to be entered and report any problems encountered
  • Evaluate the time required to process data and feedback on progress in processing
  • Enter data into Excel data files using consistent formatting
  • Detect missing  or redundant data propose possible improvements
  • File questionnaire and IT data in an organised fashion that is accessible to all (clear file names, well organised files etc.) and code data
  • Sort, cross check data and create table of statistics
  • Draft reports of results based on data entered
  • Analyse strengths and weaknessess observed in the collection of data
  • Organise weekly meetings with team leaders to raise any flaws in the field data collection process
  • Advise and support team leaders to determine ways to improve the quality of data collection
  • Provide clarification to line manager on incoherences observed during the analysis of data

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably research related courses like Statistics or social sciences
  • Training in SPSS (Sphinx or other statistical software) and Microsoft Excel and related programs (Word, PPTs)
  • Experience in research (creation of excel data file, data entry, data collection, simple data analysis) and Capacity to do basic translation of English-Nepali-English (verbatism and contextual)
  • Good knowledge on data cleaning and ability to spot ambiguity 
  • Good report writing skills, organizational skills and commitment to confidentiality procedures are necessary
  • Good knowledge of Nepali and English language.
  • Local people would be preferrable.
