Finn Church Aid (FCA) is the largest Finnish development cooperation organisation and the second largest provider of humanitarian assistance. FCA is a founding member of the international aid alliance of churches and faith-based organisations, ACT Alliance, which has a total of 143 members. FCA’s annual budget is about 50 million euros, and the organisation’s staff consists of around 350 people in 14 countries.

Finn Church Aid (FCA), is looking for an experienced Country Director, Nepal

The Country Director (CD) represents FCA in Nepal and exerts overall management of the Country office and staff in order to achieve the strategic objectives of FCA. The role of CD is also to strengthen quality program, diversify FCA’s funding base and enhance FCA’s role in the country. The Country Director will report to the FCA head office in Helsinki, Finland and s/he will be based in Kathmandu.

FCA’s Country programme in Nepal is currently at an inspiring development phase; FCA’s program initiatives in quality education and humanitarian sector have brought meaningful impact and new openings in programming are developed. One key aim is to support the country to shift from a humanitarian crisis to a long-term sustainable development.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • People leadership including inspiring, developing and managing human resources
  • Overall management of FCA Nepal according to FCA Strategy, policies, guidelines and practices in respect to local laws and regulations
  • Strengthen the FCA program quality in all projects together with the program staff
  • Further developing and diversifying the existing donor base and guaranteeing the long-term revenue for FCA programs in the country
  • Overall responsibility for financial management and accountability, including planning, accounting, reporting, controls and accountability; including the compliance of Humanitarian Core Standards
  • Together with Head office’s communications team, manage FCA’s visibility in the country and support national and international advocacy efforts.
  • Overall responsibility for FCA security in the country
  • Ensure FCA’s participation in national and regional networks

Competence and Personal Requirements:

  • Outstanding and comprehensive work experience from Nepal gained from leadership roles
  • University degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field
  • Solid experience in people leadership
  • Strong emphasis on financial management skills
  • Solid know-how gained though practice in development programs, humanitarian work and advocacy
  • Extensive working experience as team leader or country level management
  • Leadership, negotiation, communication and networking skills
  • Firm experience in fundraising and achieving fundraising targets, and building excellent relations with institutional and private donors
  • Experience in security management
  • Fluent English and Nepalese language skill is required
