Scope of Work

Position summary:

The Construction Engineer will oversee the implementation of the health post reconstruction project in Gorkha District and Nuwakot District led by International Medical Corps under our Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health (MOH). This a time-limited consultancy services through the duration of the project. Strong preference will be given to those who can prove they can operate in fast-growth environments with limited resources. The ideal candidate will be both detailed-oriented and impatient to get stuff done. The Construction Engineer must be extremely fast-thinking and efficient.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Supervise the construction project professionally and with optimum quality.

  • Supervise the Health Posts construction projects to ensure optimal quality, communityrelations, and treatment of workers.
  • Perform regular quality checks to ensure that the construction project is carried out with best quality.
  • Ensure that superior quality materials are used in the construction project as per the work assigned to the contractor that meets minimum the standard provided by MOH.
  • Ensure that our contractor is held accountable to appropriate worker treatment and compensation.
  • Provide timely and strongly worded feedback to our contractor in the event of any slowness, poor quality construction, or other unprofessional behaviors.

2. Ensure the timeliness of achieving the milestones and completion of the projects.

  • Set weekly milestones for project progress, and get the contractor's agreement on it.
  • Hold the contractor accountable to the project timeline agreed with us.
  • Get the contractor make all the construction related materials and HR, available to work on the multiple sites at a time.
  • Ensure the completion of the project on time agreed upon between the contractor and us, and in line with our understanding with MOH.

3. Coordinate with and provide reports to the District Public Health Offices, National Reconstruction Authority, District Development Committee and VDC/Ward Offices and other agencies to ensure optimal alignment with them.

  • Regularly consult with the related officials at DPHO and other government offices responsible for rebuilding work regarding the technical aspects of the project.
  • Create and submit required technical documents and reports to district authority, including DPHO, NRA and DDRC required for approval and alignment.
  • Arrange the site visits of government officials upon their discretion in coordination with supervisor.

4.  Active and regular coordination with direct supervisor to update the progress.

  • Talk to supervisor regularly to discuss on issues and progress.
  • Record and share the construction progress and any other updates in the IMC's Standard Construction Monitoring tool to direct supervisor.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Special Requirement: This job will require a prefab construction background/ Construction of Shelter and preferred locals.

  • Diploma in Engineering (Civil) or higher/Minimum 1 years’ experience in building construction for Engineer and 3 years of experience in building construction for Overseer.
  • Ability to work independently, manage variety of activities while communicating, connecting, collaborating with local stakeholders, coordination committee member, DPHO, VDC Secretary. 
  • Nepali & English/Locality preferred with good understanding of working in remote areas. /Should have or manage own transportation.
