Communications Specialist
Details / requirements:
Chemonics International Inc., a Washington D.C.-based international development company, seeks a qualified Communications Specialist for an anticipated multi-year U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Counter Trafficking in Persons in Asia (CTIP-Asia) program in the lower Mekong sub-region. The project will combat trafficking in the Southeast Asia Region through increasing the capacity of law enforcement; protection of survivors; prosecution of perpetrators; and investment in strong partnerships with stakeholders across sectors to end trafficking. This position will be based in Kathmandu.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive communications strategy for
- Design and/or manage and oversee implementation of communications campaigns to support specific project components and/or partner agencies programs
- Maintain primary contact with the media and communications production houses
- Organize press conferences, workshops for media representatives, media events in conjunction with partner agencies
- Carry out communication training programs for counterparts in partner agencies
- Oversee audience research, and knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) studies
- Prepare and oversee pre-testing of communications messages, materials, and programs to ensure project reaches its strategic communications goals
- Help to develop communications and outreach strategies for project counterparts
- Provide communications and public outreach training and capacity building support to counterparts
Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience in the field of communications and/or public outreach, including work with donor-funded projects
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in communications, public relations, English, literature, or a related field
- Experience on an international development project a plus
- Ability to write and verbally communicate clearly and concisely
- Proven ability to communicate clear messages and goals to a variety of audiences, including community members, stakeholders, and multicultural audiences
- Demonstrated experience designing strategic communication campaigns, conducting media outreach, organizing media events, and writing project reports
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English and Nepali; strong written and oral communications skills
