Effective with the release of this position announcement, Winrock International is recruiting applicants for the position of Communications Manager for an upcoming agriculture program in Nepal. POSITION TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

LOCATION: Kathmandu, Nepal

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Communications Manager will be responsible for the project communications strategy, including consistency and effectiveness of messages, and will produce internal communications (reports, success stories etc.)for an anticipated USAID/Nepal-funded food security activity in Nepal. The activity aims to support the creation of a self-reliant, sustainable, competitive, and inclusive agriculture sector that drives economic growth and contributes to improved livelihoods and food and nutrition security in Nepal.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop comprehensive internal and external communications strategy per USAID and Winrock internal policies and guidelines, including developing project Communications Plan;
  • Assist in the preparation of communications materials (reports and success stories, etc.), ensuring high-quality, consistent and effective messages;
  • Develop knowledge sharing and learning dissemination messages to share with partners and stakeholders, working closely with the technical team;
  • Lead preparation process of quarterly and annual reports, and edit/format these reports as required;
  • Oversee local partners to develop extension and outreach dissemination materials;
  • Prepare communications materials (handouts, fact sheets, brochures, blogs, presentations) as requested by the COP, WI Home Office staff, or USAID;
  • Work with the COP and senior staff to identify and verify achievements and stories to be included in communications pieces;
  • Use social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to reach a broader target population with messages about project achievements and impacts, publicize events, etc.;
  • Participate in regular field visits to document project activities and results, and train staff and partners;
  • Ensure project successes are well-documented through photo and videos to accompany articles and other documents.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor Degree in Communication or equivalent university degree in Management, or relevant experience

EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • At least 5 years of experiences in the communications field
  • INGO experience is strongly preferred; experience on donor-funded projects (specifically USAID) highly desired;
  • S/he must have strong creative and analytical abilities
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience in various media(print, video, radio, web, etc.)
  • Ideally an understanding of agricultural issues and business principals
  • Knowledge of social media (Facebook, Twitter) is a plus.

Other: High degree of fluency in English (both written and oral) and Nepali required.
