Location: Training in Dhading and Gorkha – preparation/ coordination in Kathmandu and at field level

 

Purpose of the Consultancy

The specific purpose of this consultancy is execute training on the clinical management of GBV and rape in particular for health workers based in Gorkha and Dhading. Through building the capacity of government health workers and the local hospital, IMC hopes to strengthen the clinical care and response for GBV survivors. The training will be complementary to training recently carried out at district level and will focus on ensuring all qualified staff has been trained and reaching out to the lower health levels according to national protocols.

 

Key Objectives:

The specific objective of the consultancy is:

·         To train healthcare providers so that they are able to identify and provide appropriate clinical care for survivors of sexual violence and other forms of GBV according to the guiding principles and compassionate care.

 

Duties and responsibilities of the consultant:

  1. Consolidate the relevant training materials/ training pack and provide manuals for each participant – timely delivery for print in Kathmandu in preparation for the training.
  2. Provide print outs of relevant national protocols for health centers ensure adherence to the national guidelines.
  3. Conduct two, three-day trainings for (15 to 20) health professionals and other clinical healthcare providers on clinical care for sexual assault survivors and GBV survivors, training hours should be adapted to work schedules of medical staff.
    1. Training for GBV clinical management will include the syndromic management of Sexually Transmitted Illnesses (STIs) and
    2. Use of devices/ MISP kits and should give specific attention for treatment and care including for child survivors.
    3. Strengthening skills and positive attitudes for providing support and services, including referral to GBV survivors in adherence of the guiding principles and compassionate care, this part of the training should also include support staff
    4. Provide guidance on patient flow, privacy, security of patient files and ensure patient confidentiality, this part of the training should also include support staff
    5. Document results of the training through pre and post tests
  4. Conduct four to six days at location (depending on the number of sides selected) coaching to nurses and physicians on applying the training guidance – including assessment on availability of appropriate materials, medication and space for response – concluded with a wrap up of finding on location at each day
  5. Submit a training report due 5 days following the completion of the training and a final conclusive report detailing lessons learnt and recommendations due 10 days following the completion of the on-job supervision.
  6. Support the organization of the event by liaising with relevant partners and identifying the health centers in Dadhing and Gorkha to be included in the training
  7. Liaise with MoHP and management of health facilities, as required, to ensure commitment to provision of health services to survivors of gender-based violence, including sexual assault and rape
  8. Engagement/meetings/orientation to district officials, head of hospitals and other relevant actors on, national policies on CMR, referral pathway coordination etc.
  9. Perform any other related activities needed to improve the quality and effectiveness of the program including participation in coordination meetings if applicable.

Conditions of the Consultancy

The consultant will work in coordination with the GBV Program coordinator based in Nepal, with travel to the field areas in Dhading and Gorkha Districts. All curricula, reports and materials designed and produced under this consultancy will be property of International Medical Corps.

 

Required Qualification and Experience

Experienced professional MD or nurse that is available to start the training towards half October/ early November

 

The qualified candidate needs to demonstrate familiarity and experience with the following:

1. MD, Master in Nursing with specialization in Gynecology, Obstetrics or Sexual and Reproductive Health

2. Prior extensive training in the clinical management of rape (sexual assault)

3. Relevant experience training using IASC guidelines on Gender-based Violence and WHO Clinical Management of Rape facilitation guide or the IRC Clinical Care for Sexual Assault Survivors facilitation guide

4. Familiarity with the following materials; any relevant MoH guidelines, the WHO guideline on reproductive health training; IASC’s Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP); and IASC guidelines for HIV/AIDS and PEP; UNFPA training manuals

4. Prior clinical experience providing care for survivors of sexual assault preferred

5. Strong facilitation and writing skills

6. Thorough understanding of the guiding principles and compassionate care

7. Familiarity with referral pathway coordination and understanding how the health sector contributes to a wider response
