POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE: Business Development Service Officer (BDS-Officer)

LOCATION: Districts of West, Mid-West and Far-West Development Region of Nepal

GROUP/UNIT: Enterprise and Agriculture

REPORTS TO: Agriculture Program Officer (APO)

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The USAID funded Knowledge-based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition (KISAN) Project aims to sustainably reduce poverty and hunger in Nepal by achieving inclusive growth in the agriculture sector and increasing the income of farm families. USAID/Nepal will implement the project over a five-year period in 20 districts of western, mid-western and far-western region of Nepal: Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Doti, Achham, Kailali, Dailekh, Surkhet, Bardiya, Banke, Rukum, Jajarkot, Salyan, Rolpa, Dang, Pyuthan, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Kapilvastu and Palpa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The BDS- Officer will carry out following responsibilities with close cooperation and guidance of Marketing Manager, Agriculture Project Officer /PO in attaining the KISAN Output 4 .

  • S/he will implement different activities in attaining Improved Market Efficiency 
  • Formation and strengthening of Marketing and Planning Committees, including establishing and promoting network of Market centers/MPCs,
  • Development of input marketing and output Marketing Institutions 
  • Strengthening of Business Development Services for the support of project activities in the district.
  • Strengthening input marketing Institutions / input suppliers, LSPs, agrovets etc in the project district.
  • Help Establish District level ICT-enabled market Information, Expanding markets and trade of the beneficiaries.
  • Increase Value of sales transacted increased at USG supported at farm- level  and collection centers attributed to KISAN FTF implementation 
  • Number of collection centers established and functioning via facilitation of USG (either through funding or leveraging)
  • Increase Number of beneficiary farmers utilizing collection centers
  • Increase percentage of beneficiary farmers who access timely market information 
  • Increase employment opportunities in targeted value chains
  • Increase investment in agriculture and nutrition-related activities
  • Increase value of new private sector investment in the ag sector or food chain leveraged by  KISAN FTF implementation
  • Assist /guide Agri. Marketing supervisor working in the project district to ensure project target achievement.
  • Explore and develop   BDS-providers and market linkage of the product and services in the district for supporting the employment and income generation for the rural poor.
  • Other instructions given by the Supervisor/Agricultural Marketing Manager.
  • Take lead in the establishment and strengthening of Cooperatives, farmers, collectors, traders association, District level /Pocket level Apex bodies.
  • Take lead in establishing local input- output oriented market linkages between local level entrepreneurs and trading/processing/industrial groups.
  • Manage and conduct TOT trainings in marketing and support farmer/entrepreneur trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors Degree in Agriculture/ Economics/ Management and subsequent work experience in development projects. Intermediate with sufficient years of experiences in the Agriculture and marketing and business development field. Effective verbal and written communication skills and negotiation skills with other organizations. Motor cycle driving license holder will have an additional advantage.
