Build Change started its work in Aceh, Indonesia after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami and has since expanded to include programs in China, Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Nepal, and the Philippines. Build Change has trained more than 23,000 people on earthquake-resistant design and construction techniques, created more than 11,000 jobs and provided technical assistance for more than 47,000 safer buildings, impacting an estimated 236,875 people.

 

Responsibilities:

Build Change is seeking a qualified individual to assist in development of a builder construction training program to aid in the rebuilding efforts following the two earthquakes earlier in 2015. This person would be involved in development of trainer capacity, training methods, training center design, curriculum design, as well as research and logistics for the training program.

•Assist the training coordinator in gathering information and developing training material

•Support the development of hands on training modules for earthquake resistant builder training programs

•Assist in development of training material including lectures, presentations, and trainer and trainee course material

•Along with the master builder/trainer, the Assistant Trainer will participate in builder training, recruit builders and conduct training sessions based on decided earthquake resistant training curriculum

•Participate in training of trainers and training of builders in earthquake resistant building techniques

•Travel to remote areas of Nepal and assist in builder trainings and research for training development

•Demonstrate the ability to convey earthquake resistant building principles

•Undertake other assignments or tasks as requested by your supervisor or required for contributing to the success of the team.

 

 Qualifications:

•Strong working knowledge of construction materials and practices in Nepal

•Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment

•Understanding of earthquake-resistant design and construction of stone masonry, confined masonry, reinforced masonry, and timber buildings for both new and retrofit buildings

•5 years of experience, TSLC, or bachelor’s degree in related construction/engineering field

•Fluent English and Nepali is a requirement.

•Prior construction training experience is desired

•No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible, humble, patient, and have a good sense of humor
