OBJECTIVE:

With the CSISA NP Extension project in Objective five,there are requesting two positions for Agricultural Mechanization Specialist One will be based in Nepalganj and the other one in Dhangadhi in the Far West Development Region of Nepal.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Agricultural Research and Training Center (ARTC) Manager the Agricultural Mechanization Specialist will:

  • Aid in CSISA NP's efforts to find, evaluate, improve and commercialize scale-appropriate agricultural machinery in crop establishment, crop protection, irrigation harvest and farm transport


  • Aid in the development of training materials and modules for service providers and other stakeholders that offers guidance on machinery repair and maintenance, proper use, better-bet mechanized agronomic practices, especially those that pertain to CA and precision agriculture management systems
  • Aid in planning and reporting and implementation of overview studies that identify and highlight constraints experienced by service providers and the agro-machinery industry and identify and recommend potential solutions
  • Aid and strengthen relationships and partnerships with public and private sector partners in Nepal


  • Aid in the dissemination of research findings through various reports and but also conferences, workshops and publications
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation and statistical analysis and reporting efforts by providing quality input and reports in a timely manner (every 2-3 months as indicated by the Project Leader)


  • Follow best practices in data collection, and in organizing, managing, storing, and archiving data in accordance with project and CIMMYT norms
  • Ensure that clean, good quality, clearly labeled data sets and information (docs, photos, videos, etc.) are sent or made available in electronic form every month to the project lead


  • Follow prescribed communication norms, using agreed-upon tools (email, wikis, blogs, websites, etc.) regularly and effectively, and responding promptly to questions and concerns


  • Assist ARTC managers with budget, staff management, and other activities as appropriate


  • Report to ARTC manager, with additional oversight by objective and project leads

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree or equivalent in agricultural engineering or other agricultural and/or environmental sciences or engineering-related discipline
  • Practical working knowledge of conservation agriculture  â€¨â€¨
  • Working knowledge of various production, crop protection, irrigation, harvesting equipment 


  • Demonstrated experience in agricultural engineering and in training farmers in the efficient and effective use of agricultural machineries
  • Demonstrated partnership building and networking experience with both the public and private sectors 


  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and team-building skills
  • Demonstrated experience with farmer mobilization, participatory research in the seed sector, and/or with soil, crop, and water management with resource-conserving technologies in Nepal
  • Good understanding of conservation agriculture practices and scale-appropriate machinery, and demonstrated ability to find innovative solutions to problems encountered in the field
  • Experience developing training materials and conducting trainings, field demonstrations, etc.
  • Expertise with agricultural machinery is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience working and interacting effectively with a variety of stakeholders (field assistants, farmers, extension workers, public and private sector entities), and demonstrated ability to collaborate well across disciplines and institutions
  • Fluent in English and Nepali (written and spoken)
